Michele's parents, Henriette and Claude Cahuzac, on an overlook in Montpellier, France.

Montepellier is a beautiful city on the Mediterranean coast where our friend Michele had arranged for us to stay with her parents. Her father and brother met us at the freeway late at night to show us the way to their home through winding streets, and then her mother served us a delicious French dinner at nearly midnight of vegetable soup, lamb stew, fresh bread, cheese and fruit. Their compact apartment easily slept all of us, as it had been creatively remodeled to accommodate the five Picaud children.

The next day Henriette and Claude took us on a fascinating walking tour of the city, which we plan to revisit this summer. It has been an important city since Roman times, and has a beautiful elegance in architecture, layout and public squares.

Although we speak little French and they spoke little English, we managed to learn a lot through dictionaries, sign language and a lot of pointing and laughing. Their kindness made us feel very welcome and we hope to visit them again.
