When is apizza more than a pizza? When you've left your roots three thousand miles away and you crave the comfort that only food and memories can provide, then it's time to go back for a visit to the Best Pizza in the World. My first memory of Pepe's resides in the dim blur of my childhood: my 24-year-old dad sitting me up on the bar while he ordered clams on the half shell and chatted with friends. (See Families section) My most recent memory of Pepe's is from December of 2007, when we enjoyed a clam pie during a trip to Connecticut to visit my parents, aged 84 and 82. In the 60 years between those two visits to Pepe's I have grown up and moved away. I have my own children who have their own memories of New Haven. But Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana still keeps its ovens fired up back on Wooster Street. And I can't come home without a taste of the Best Pizza in the World.
