Longhorn's shells on floor create atmosphere for good eatin'

Throwing peanut shells on the ground is something you would do at a baseball game but would never expect to do in a restaurant. That is, of course, unless you went to eat at the Texas Longhorn Bar and Grill. The western theme hits your eyes, ears and nose when you open the door. From cowboy boots and jeans hanging on the wall to the country-western music that fills every corner, be prepared to enjoy the western life.

The average wait on a Saturday night is about what you would expect at any popular restaurant, but there are plenty of peanuts to be consumed and then tossed on the wood floor while you wait. The food and casual atmosphere make up for the wait. Even the non-country fans had a great time.

The menu is good, old-fashioned American food, mainly boasting their "Best in the West" barbecue ribs. The menu also offers a variety of sandwiches, steak, chicken and hamburgers with a house salad and baked bread that could bring a "Yeehaw" to any hungry face.

The prices are fair, so don't sell the ranch to pay for dinner. We had a group of seven and spent a little more than $60. The service was average, considering that every table in the joint was full of hungry buckaroos. We waited a bit to get our waitress, but she had a friendly Western spirit that gave the place its claim to fame.

A recommendation is to head over to the Texas Longhorn for a birthday celebration. The huge dessert menu and the staff's singing would send anyone home with a big Texas smile.
