Tired of the club scene, a friend and I decided to check out Einstein's Cafe on Friday night. We were there to sample some of their famous vegetarian cuisine and listen to some free jazz.

We were welcomed warmly to the large cafe and instructed to take any seat we wanted. My friend Susan and I chose a table right next to the fish tank about 15 feet from the small stage. We were promptly given menus and water and quickly made our dining decisions.

We decided to sample the famous Beer Cheese Soup made with Smokey Gouda Cheese and Guinness Beer. While the combination may seem odd, the tasty soup was a perfect prelude to our meals and a nice way to start the weekend. Our meals arrived soon after finishing the soup. Susan decided on a garden cheeseburger and I choose a portabella mushroom garden burger. Both our meals were served hot with a side of chips and salsa.

After finishing our meals we settled in for the jazz ensemble to perform their three sets. The band, which alternates members and has no name, included of a drummer, bass, bass guitar and saxophone player, and all varying in age but all terrific musicians.

While I do not know that much about jazz, the music was upbeat enough to keep my attention and the set up of the cosmic cafe allowed for casual discussion even during the sets.

Einstein's is a good place to meet friends and enjoy some good food and cosmic atmosphere.
