L.D.S. temple open to Reno community

by Lisa Aland, Outpost staff

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern Nevada and parts of California had a reason to celebrate this week as the doors of the new Reno, Nev. Temple were opened to the public for walk-through tours.

The temple is important to members of the Church because what they learn in the temple gives meaning and direction to their lives. Before the Reno temple was constructed, members had to travel four hours, over Donner Pass to Oakland, Calif., which can be difficult in the winter. The Reno, Nev. L.D.S. Temple is the second temple built in Nev. Another was built in Las Vegas in 1989.

I had the opportunity to tour the temple with Elder Rex D. Pinegar, a leader representing the Church from Salt Lake City, the Church's headquarters. As area president, Pinegar oversees Church affairs in this region of the country. As Pinegar lead our group through the beautiful rooms of the temple it was difficult to miss the delicate craftsmanship and detail.
