Gazing at Angel Moroniby Lisa Aland, Outpost staff
Outside, the sun beat down on the 7-foot gold statue of the Angel Moroni atop the spire of the $5 million temple. Area residents were concerned about lights from the spire at night. They did not want it to overpower the neighborhood.
"The lights don't really bother me at all," Frank Brooke, a neighborhood resident, said. "I can see it from my backyard every night and I think it's a nice view. I'd rather look at that than dark mountains." The exterior of the temple was made of gray granite from a query in Sharon, Vt., the birthplace of Joseph Smith, who organized the Church April 6, 1830. The scenic landscaping was contributed by Moana Nursery, Reno.
"I was amazed by the great detail and quality," Linda Jones, a Carson City resident, said. "It also impressed me that they have such a high regard for the importance of families. I came away feeling really good."
