Open house informationby Lisa Aland, Outpost staff
The open house will run through April 15th. The temple will then be closed to the public in preparation for its April 23rd dedication. Once it is dedicated, only members who are in good standing are able to enter the temple. Attending the open house of a Mormon temple is a rare experience. The Reno Temple is the 81st operating temple constructed by the Church worldwide.
The temple was announced April 12, 1999 and ground was broken July 24, 1999. The 10,700-square-foot temple was constructed in eight months and will serve 26, 500 members in Northern Nevada and small parts of California.
"The temple is the house of the Lord, a most sacred place," President Gordon B. Hinckley, leader of the Church, said. "It is a place of worship that is dedicated to the Lord."
