The Mall vs. The Internet

The Mall
The Internet

Scale of 1-10: 3

Scale of 1-10: 7

- You have to get dressed.

+ No need to get dressed or do your hair.

- You have to drive there and find a parking spot. Don't even think about doing something else at the stoplights or while driving. 'Tis the season for road rage.

+ Don't have to drive anywhere. No traffic or searching for a parking spot. Time saved can be put to use doing something constructive, like watching Jenny Jones.

- You have to listen to crappy Christmas music played too loud and good Christmas music not played loud enough.

+ Ability to chose your own music and its volume.

- Outside it is cold; inside it is hot.

+ Climate control.

+/- You know where all the stores are, but you can not come and go from them easily.

-/+ Finding the site you need can be frustrating but you can come and go from the Internet easily.

- Screaming children, runny noses, perfume ladies and strollers.

+ No screaming/crying children (at least none you don't know).

+ You have your purchases that day.

- You won't receive what you bought for at least two days -- and possibly weeks if the item is popular.

+ The food court. Hot Dog on a Stick :)!

- You'll have to make something to eat. No Hot Dog on a Stick :(!

- Rude or annoying sales people and other frustrated shoppers.

+ No sales people and the only people you have to put up with are the ones you live with.

- Waiting in line to pay and not being able to do anything else for fear someone will cut in front of you or yell at you.

-/+ Slow modems and busy sites, but you can do other things while you wait.

- You have to carry all of your bags around with you all day.

+ The Internet delivers.

+ Everything at the mall is three-dimensional.

- Everything is two-dimensional.

+ You can, or at least your kid can, sit on Santa's lap.

- There is no Santa at your house until Christmas Eve.

+ Most stores take cash, credit and checks.

- The Internet only takes credit cards.

+ You can get someone to help you if you can't find something.

- There may be someone out there somewhere to help you but your guess is as good as mine on how to find them.

- Time at mall to find seven items: 3 hours

+ Time on Internet to find six items: 1 hour
