Headdress

This display contains a headdress made from ermine and mink, abalone shell, eagle and downy feathers and beading. Plains Indians originally wore headdresses of this style. Eventually other Native Americans adopted them as a sign of their culture. This piece was bought from Mark Jones in 1937. Also within this display is a photo of Pyramid Lake with Northern Paiute people super-imposed over the lake. The museum doesn't know who created this photo but these men are wearing headdresses of the style on display.
