Day 4: The sun shower incident in Lemmon Valley by Samantha Shankle, Outpost Staff
The next morning I groggily peeked out of my tent after hearing a nearby scream, "wake up sleepy head, we're leaving!" Panic struck as I realized mine was the last tent standing. I jumped out and threw on my stiff pants. After two days in the saddle they could have stood on their own. I grabbed my horse and saddled up, dropping behind the group to catch my breath. Ranch hands belted out orders, or screamed out when hearing something funny, "strip my gears and call me shiftless!" Others would drop behind to chat for awhile, pointing out barbed wire we needed to avoid, or talk about their horse and gossip about the other guests. The last night was spent going over the drill for the next day. We would be dropping into Reno and would be taking a few of the main streets that would bring us to the final destination of the Reno Rodeo at the Livestock Events Center. Talk was serious, for horses get antsy with so much commotion. We were all tired yet excited with the prospect of finishing the job. We were almost there.
