American Pop, the animation by Claire
Tapia, Outpost staff Director Ralph Bakshi uses a method of animation called rotoscoping, which is done by tracing live action film into animated cells. This adds a realistic edge by giving the characters detailed movement that is often absent in animation. Film footage and photographs are also used, creating a visual effect that is similar to a moving collage. Another cool aspect is the variation of the way that the characters are drawn. Some look realistic while others look like cartoons and have strange distorted faces. The mixed media Bakshi uses makes for a multi-layered visual experience, which is the most interesting aspect of this movie.
