Dave and Sammy are out. Right now, Gary Cherone is at the vocal helm.

Van Halen III is a departure for the band in several ways. First, this is the first Van Halen record where most of the lyrics were written before the music. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has said recently Gary provided lryics to Eddie which in turn insprired Eddie to write the music. Second, this album features Eddie taking a shot at the lead vocal for one song.

The album starts out with a tender ballad, " Neworld." The song features Eddie playing acoustic gutiar along with Mike Post ( who played piano on this song and co-produced the album with Eddie ). The song lasts no longer than two minutes. But it's a message for listners that the new album is indeed a new world for Eddie and crew.

Once Neworld finishes, the album takes listners on a wild ride through different emotions. From loss of a love in " From
Afar " to a peeping tom in " Dirty Water Dog. "
