New concert venue to rock northern California this summer by Brian Vance, Outpost staff The summer concert season is approaching, and northern Nevadans and Californians will soon have a new venue to watch their favorite musicians. The Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre is under construction 10 miles south of Marysvillle (120 southwest of Reno) Calif. on Highway 65, (one hour north of downtown Sacramento) and is scheduled to open early summer 2000. The amphitheatre has already booked a variety of well known acts such as Britney Spears, the Dave Matthews Band, Steely Dan, Marc Anthony, Ozzfest 2000 and No Doubt, with more bookings to come.
The amphitheater is being constructed under the direction of SFX Entertainment, formerly Bill Graham Presents, at a cost of $25 million. It will have 8,000 reserved seats along with space for another 10,500 people behind the reserved seat on the festival lawn. This amphitheater is similar in design to the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., three hours south of Sacramento in the Bay Area. Shoreline Amphitheatre was also built under the direction of Bill Graham Presents (SFX) in 1986 and has been called "the Cadillac of amphitheatres" by the Wall Street Journal. Patrons of the new amphitheatre can expect high quality sound and video along with above average sight lines to the stage. The facility has enough parking for a capacity crowd, and parking fees are included in the price of the concert ticket.
