Reno's
guide to family fun
- WASHOE
COUNTY LIBRARY - This user-friendly site has
a ton of links to programs throughout Washoe County. Some
activities that might be of special interest to parents
with younger children include: Story
Time, which runs in several branches so you can
select the most convenient time and location; Kids
and the Internet, one of the free Internet and
Technology classes and Arts
and Crafts, a classic under Adult and Family
Programs.
- THE
FLEISCHMANN PLANETARIUM - This site has more
information about, and more links to, national astrology
organizations than to local happenings. But it also
provides an updated schedule of events including viewing
times for the current movie at the SkyDome.
- RENO.NET
- This site maintains a directory-type of list of local
family atractions. Some items have links to web sites,
but most only include the phone number, address and
ticket price The list as a whole is complete and might
include a few zoos or museums you didn't know about. For
outdoor enthusiasts, this site includes an area camping
directory and a fishing
guide highlighting the best spots in nearby lakes and
rivers.
- BRUKA
THEATER - This is not a very sophisticated
site. It's mostly text, but it includes a current
schedule of events and ticketing information. The theater
features several children's workshops and plays thoughout
the year but you might have to call the number posted.
The last time I checked there was a note saying the
children's schedule was being updated.
- UPTOWN
DOWNTOWN ARTOWN - This site contains
information about The Reno Summer Arts Festival, the
ARTown organization and The Sierra Arts Foundation. It
also includes a schedule of events and brief highlights
on the guests and shows featured. The site is easy to
navigate through and includes some great photographs from
the 1998 event.
- RENO
BALLOON RACES - The event itself colors the
sky over Reno for only a couple of weeks in September but
the site contains several photographs that make it worth
visiting at any time during the year. Check out Dawn
Patrol art or their panoramic
photos for a sample. Last year's photography
contest winners also are featured.
