Editor's note: One of
Nevada's attractions is the numerous casinos in the state.
Millions of visitors come to Nevada for long weekends,
holidays and vacations. This links package contains Web
sites of gambling organizations and groups, governmental or
private. These Web sites provide information on various
issues, including gaming laws, gaming impact study, problem
gambling and gaming management program. Its purpose is to
help the reader to locate gambling related information and
make use of it. Outpost also has a list of Northern Nevada

section.

organizations:
- NEVADA
GAMING COMMISSION and STATE GAMING CONTROL
BOARD - This is a
government Web site featuring the two gambling regulatory
organizations. It explains the functions of each
organization and contact information. Also,
industrial
publications and
summary
statistics of the past
three years can be found in this site.
- INSTITUTES
FOR THE STUDY OF GAMBLING AND COMMERCIAL
GAMING - This is a
Web site of an educational institute in the University of
Nevada, Reno, it presents faculty
and curriculum
information. Beyond that,
it has detailed information on publications
and full-text
articles on gambling and
business. Despite of its lack of graphics, the site
containing rich information is constantly updated and has
an interactive mail
list feature.
- NEVADA
COUNCIL ON PROBLEM
GAMBLING - With
20
questions, people can do a
self test on whether they are problem gamblers. One of
the 39 affiliates of the National
Council on Problem Gambling,
Nevada Council's site introduces the definitions and
types of problem gambling. It also gives out a 24-hour
help line number and a list of organizations that help
problem gamblers. Featured
Articles bring the reader
more insight on the issue. The site's homepage lists each
sections, which makes it easy for the reader to
navigate.
- CASINOLAW.COM
- Offered by the Treading Water Company, the Web site is
devoted to legal issues on gambling, such as
Internet
gambling and
gaming
taxation. Jurisdiction
information includes US
laws, state laws and international laws on gambling. It
provides an extensive bibliography
and a list of books
published by Trace
Publication, which carries books about gambling industry.
The site also includes news
articles, links,
specialties,
and a
list of events. It is a
useful site to look up for legal matters regarding casino
business.
National
organizations:
- NATIONAL
GAMBLING IMPACT STUDY
COMMISSION - This
site contains information about the commission created by
congress "to conduct a comprehensive legal and factual
study of the social and economic impacts of gambling on
federal, state, local" levels. The commission locates in
Washington, D.C. Its Web site contains public
information, such as the research
agenda and reports
of the commission. Check out the its final
report on gambling's social
impact.
- AMERICAN
GAMING ASSOCIATION
- This is a Web site of a national group advocating
gambling. It contains reports and articles on the
benefits and harmlessness of gambling.
- NATIONAL
COALITION AGAINST LEGALIZED
GAMBLING - This is
a national antigambling group. Its Web site contains
articles on bad effects of gambling and measures to take
against gambling.
