Paradise Park is the only park located in both Reno and Sparks, although it is operated by the Reno Parks and Recreation department. In 1997 it received a facelift from the city of Reno and was re-opened to the public. The main attraction of Paradise Park is the pond. Long a haven for migrating ducks and geese, Paradise Pond had gotten so dirty that the waterfowl would become sick eating the water bugs and exit the water caked in sludge. However, now that the pond has been drained, cleaned and been given a new bottom of white slate, the ducks and geese have reclaimed it as a resting place in their yearly migration. However, Paradise Park is not only a paradise for birds, but for humans as well. Many people enjoy feeding bread crumbs to the hungry birds or having a family outing at one of the many barbecue pits. Two covered pavillions make a large gathering possible at Paradise Park, and one pavillion even offers a large roasting spit, like the kind used to roast a luau pig. For all the time and money Reno put into the park, it now looks more beautiful than ever.
