Reno offers plenty to children, mother says by Jordan Rasmussen, Outpost staff Brooke
Dutton Brooke Dutton says she stays at home with her three children, Sarah, Christopher and Rachel. But they don't seem to really stay at home too often because Dutton said they have a lot to do in this city. "There is always an art exhibit at Rancho San Rafael Park," said Dutton, who has been home since the birth of her first child. "There are the balloon races, crafts with kids through Reno Parks and Recreation. The libraries always have something for the kids. The Nevada Museum of Art, the Planetarium, the Bowling Stadium, and the normal stuff like the movies... There is always something." Dutton also actively look for activities to participate in with her children. She is part of a mothers' group through St. John's Presbyterian Church in Reno. The group is called Mothers of Pre-Schoolers, also known as MOPS. It includes parents from Reno and Sparks area.
"There are about 80 women from the Reno Christian Fellowship," Dutton says. "There are 35 women in my group." Dutton's youngest daughter, Rachel, who she stays home with all the time, is two. Her other two children, Christopher, 9, and Sarah, 11, spend part of their day in school. Dutton said there were activities in Burbank. But as a child, she wasn't actively looking for them there. She said she remembers her parents taking her out to special events.
