Don Taylor, 25, owner of Welcome Net Inc., is a Gen Xer who found the perfect fit for himself in new technology.

Welcome Net is an Internet advertising company in Pismo Beach, Calif., started in June 1996. Taylor and three friends used their own money to start this small business that will soon expand from only Nevada and California to the entire nation. He has a quick answer about why he chose this field.

"Internet advertising is a large business that keeps growing, which makes it easy to sell."

Taylor studied business for only two years at Cuesta College in San Luis Obisbo, Calif., before deciding he needed to start his own business. He is now the wealthiest member of his family.

"I grew up in a poverty stricken family, but even if my parents were millionaires, I would've taken the same route," Taylor said.

Taylor agrees with other young entrepreneurs that Gen Xers don't generally have a strong work ethic.

"I unfortunately do agree with the stereotypes that Generation X is given," Taylor said. "However, I think that the drugs like crystal methane and other synthetics are to blame."

One of Taylor's employees, Mark Madsen, 20, says that even though Taylor sees problems with Generation X, he is willing to push others to succeed the same way he pushed himself. Madsen talked of him as being more of a mentor than a boss and said Taylor doesn't consider himself a manager but more of a team builder.

"Don believes everyone has an equal opportunity for success," Madsen said. "There's definitely no limit to what he believes he can accomplish."
