Spring football
fever In this package Last week was the opening of spring practice for the football squad. It is new coach Chris Tormey's first opportunity to get a look at what he will have to deal with this fall. Besides evaluating the Wolf Pack's talent, Tormey must also prepare the squad for its move into the Western Athletic Conference next season. After coaching at Idaho the past four seasons, Tormey wants to redefine the qualities that Nevada football displayed throughout most of the past decade. The University of Nevada will look to break
out this fall and make an impact as the new kid in
the Western Athletic Conference.
Nevada does have 31 lettermen returning, but only three returning starters on each side of the ball. With so few starters returning from last year's squad that finished with a 3-8 record, there are a lot of questions for next season. Those questions began to be this month, as Nevada holds its 15 spring practices, the number allowed by the NCAA. "We're going to find out a lot more these next 15 days," Tormey said. "A lot of these guys haven't played very much and so it's going to be a real learning experience for them and I expect them to get better every time they come out." On the web
